Our parish is on Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham this weekend which began on Friday with Mass and blessing of pilgrims before we all met at Walsingham for our first visit. 20 of us our enjoying a happy pilgrimage! Download Sunday Booklet Dear friends, It’s been another full and joyful week at St Alban’s. On Tuesday we celebrated Fr Joshua’s Licensing, and I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the many members of our congregation who came to support him on this important occasion. Your presence was a wonderful witness to the love and fellowship we share as a parish. A photograph from the service is below. This weekend, a group of us are making our annual pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham. As we pray at England’s Nazareth, please be assured that we will be remembering all of you and the life of our parish in our prayers. While I am away, I’m delighted Fr Jothi will celebrate and preach on Sunday. As we continue our journey through Matthew chapter 13, we remain in Jesus’ great discourse on the parables. Each week these familiar stories invite us to look more deeply at the mysteries of God’s kingdom and to reflect on how we are responding to Christ’s call in our own lives. With every blessing, Fr Sean Fr Joshua’s Licensing We had a wonderful occasion last week as we celebrated Fr Joshua’s Licensing. It was a joy to see 21 members of our congregation there to support him and over 150 in attendance, a wonderful witness to the love and fellowship of St Alban’s. Please continue to keep Fr Joshua in your prayers as he begins this new chapter of ministry. May God bless him, strengthen him, and use him mightily in the service of His Church. Fr Luke Demetri It’s with a heavy heart that I must share the news of Fr Luke below. This message is made to the people of St Alphage Burnt Oak, where Fr Luke is Parish Priest, by our Bishop of Fulham. Fr Luke was pastoral assistant here at St Alban’s for several months while he was an ordinand at St Stephen’s House during Covid. Prayers and Mass will be regularly offered for him. Please pray for him. Thank you, Fr Sean “Fr Luke Demetri, your parish priest, has been undergoing urgent medical tests and examinations over the past few weeks. All this culminated in a seven-hour operation in Charing Cross hospital last week to attempt to remove a tumour from his brain. Following the operation, the medical team has – very sadly – made a diagnosis of terminal cancer. In order to improve Fr Luke’s quality of life, the tumour will have to be treated by courses of radio and chemotherapy over the next few months. Fr Luke remains on sick leave for the foreseeable future. For now, he assures all the people of St Alphage of his love and prayers, and asks that you continue to pray for him, for his family, and for all the medical staff who are caring for him at this time. Fr Luke remains your parish priest. During his absence the parish will be ably supported by the Churchwardens, the Area Dean and the Archdeacon of Hampstead. I will be visiting you on Friday 24th July 2026 at 7.00pm to offer a Mass for Fr Luke’s intentions, and I hope as many of you as possible will be there to pray for your parish priest. Afterwards I will be available to speak with you. I assure all of you of my prayers at this time of anxiety and uncertainty. Download Sunday Booklet Dear friends, This Sunday we continue through St Matthew’s Parable Discourse in Chapter 13. Last week we asked ourselves, What sort of soil will you be? This week Jesus gives us another challenge in the Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds: Will you be good seed or bad weeds? Christ calls each of us to be good seed, growing in His grace and bearing fruit for His Kingdom. The weeds are thrown away into the fiery furnace… The weather has certainly felt like a fiery furnace this week! Thankfully, it has not stopped the mission and good works of our parish, and I thank everyone who continues to serve so faithfully. This week is a busy one as we prepare for Fr Joshua’s licensing on Tuesday among many other things (see week schedule). Please keep him in your prayers as he begins this new ministry, and give thanks for all he has shared with us at St Alban’s. Many of us will soon be heading away for a summer break, while others will be travelling on our parish pilgrimage to Walsingham. Before holidays and pilgrimages begin, let us gather this Sunday as good soil, good seed, and people shaped by the goodness of God’s grace. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday. Download Sunday Booklet Dear friends, Over the next three Sundays, our Gospel readings will bring us some of Christ’s most famous and beloved parables. These simple stories have been inspiring, challenging, and transforming Christians for centuries, and each one invites us to look more deeply into the mystery of God’s Kingdom. This Sunday we begin with the Parable of the Sower. At first glance, its meaning seems straightforward. Jesus Himself explains that the seed is the Word of God, and the different types of soil represent the different ways people receive it. Some hearts are hardened, some receive the Word only briefly before falling away, some allow life’s worries and distractions to choke its growth, and some receive it with faith, bearing abundant fruit. Yet, as is so often the case with Our Lord’s teaching, there is far more happening in this parable than first meets the eye. The more we listen to it, the more it reveals… Whether this is the first time you have heard this parable or the thousandth, I warmly encourage you to join us this Sunday to know and understand more. Together we will reflect more deeply on Christ’s words, allow them to take root in our hearts, and rejoice in the friendship we share as we gather around the Lord’s altar to celebrate the Holy Mass. Download Sunday Booklet Dear friends, As we now enter the long stretch of Ordinary Time, we do so having celebrated the great feasts and solemnities that have carried us through the first half of the Church’s year. But, as the saying goes, Ordinary Time is far from ordinary! It is in these weeks that we continue to witness God’s grace at work in the life of the Church. We are still very much in ordination season, and this Saturday, 4th July, at 10.30am, we look forward to supporting our friends at St Michael’s Church as Fr Antonio is ordained to the priesthood. Please do keep him in your prayers as he begins this wonderful ministry. And, of course, a happy Independence Day to our American friends as they celebrate their 250th anniversary—or, as we might say (to quote the King), “just the other day!” Fr Antonio will celebrate his First Mass on Sunday evening at 5.00pm, and I do hope many of you will be able to attend and support him on this special occasion. I shall be at the ordination on Saturday, but on Sunday I will be at St Mary’s, Petworth, for Fr Mark’s (Father Grandad/ my dad) retirement celebration. During the Mass, I will also have the privilege of blessing my parents as they celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary—a wonderful milestone and a great personal joy for our family. So, there is certainly no shortage of celebrations and blessings in this so-called “Ordinary Time”! My sincere thanks to Fr Jothi, who will be celebrating our Sunday Mass and preaching while I am away. May God continue to bless you all, and may these summer weeks be filled with opportunities to recognise His extraordinary grace in the ordinary moments of life. 28 June 2026 – St Peter & St Paul | Ordination Season
Download Sunday Booklet Dear friends, This Sunday, the Church celebrates the great Solemnity of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, Apostles and pillars of the Church. Their witness, faithfulness, and sacrifice continue to inspire Christians throughout the world and remind us of the apostolic foundation upon which the Church is built. This feast also marks the beginning of the Church’s ordination season. Our Bishop of Fulham will be especially busy this weekend, ordaining a deacon on Saturday and new priests on Sunday. These are joyful occasions for the whole Church, as we give thanks for those who have responded generously to God’s call. We look forward with particular joy to the ordination of Fr Antonio next Saturday, 4 July, 10.30 am. Please keep him in your prayers as he prepares for this important step in his ministry. We’re also invited to his First Mass on Sunday at 5.00 pm, a wonderful opportunity to celebrate with him and pray for God’s blessing upon his priesthood. As we draw closer to the summer months and perhaps enjoy a little rest and respite, let us remain attentive to the work of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is drawing close not only to those preparing for ordination but to the whole Church, renewing and strengthening us for the mission entrusted to us. Please pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and the religious life. Pray also for the work and mission of The Society, Forward in Faith, and for the flourishing of the catholic faith in our parishes and communities. May the Lord continue to raise up faithful shepherds for His people and grant us the grace to be steadfast witnesses to the Gospel. Farewell to our Curate Fr Joshua
Today we said a very fond farewell to our Curate Fr Joshua as we celebrated St Alban’s day with a Patronal Festival. Fr Joshua has been with us for 3 years and now begins a new ministry at St Andrew’s Kingsbury as their Vicar. We give thanks for all he has done for us and continue to keep him in our prayers. 21 June 2026 – St Alban’s Day | Patronal Festival & Farewell to Fr Joshua
Download Sunday Booklet Dear friends, This Sunday we look forward with great joy to celebrating St Alban’s Day with our Patronal Festival Mass. This is always a highlight in the life of our parish as we honour our patron saint, St Alban, the first martyr of Britain. At the beginning of the service, you are invited to bring a red rose as an offering to St Alban’s shrine, and perhaps wear something red too. While this is a joyful occasion, it is also tinged with sadness as we prepare to say goodbye to Fr Joshua, our Assistant Curate, who has served faithfully among us for the past three years. During his time at St Alban’s, Fr Joshua has been a dedicated and much-loved deacon and priest. He has enriched our worship through his thoughtful preaching, music & singing, and reverent ministry at the altar, supported our pastoral life with kindness and compassion, and built strong connections across the parish—from working with our young people/young adults and families to visiting the sick and housebound. His presence has been a great blessing to us all, and he will be greatly missed. On a personal note, he has been a good friend to me and a true joy to work alongside in the proclamation of the Gospel in this church. We have shared daily prayer together, morning and evening, and shared in the Eucharist each day; his deeply prayerful presence has been a constant source of strength and encouragement. Following the Patronal Mass this Sunday, there will be an opportunity to give thanks for Fr Joshua’s ministry at a parish party in the hall. Please do come along and join in this time of fellowship and celebration. We invite you to contribute to the festivities by bringing “food, glorious food!” Please ensure that it arrives at the hall by around 9:30am, ahead of the Mass. Download Sunday Booklet Dear friends, In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus looks upon the crowds with compassion, seeing their deep need for guidance and care. He calls His disciples to share in His mission of bringing God’s love, healing, and hope to the world, reminding us that we are all called to be witnesses of His grace. As we reflect on this Gospel, we also celebrate with great joy the baptism of Ammar and Leah. Through the waters of baptism, these candidates are welcomed into the family of faith and begin a lifelong journey as a disciple of Christ. May this coming Sunday remind us all of God’s abundant love and the call we share to live and proclaim the Good News to our local community. Sunday 7 June 2026 – Corpus Christi
Download Sunday Booklet Dear friends, This Sunday we celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi. Parish Mass is 10am, followed by an outdoor procession (weather permitting) and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Corpus Christi means “the Body of Christ.” We give thanks for Jesus’ presence in the Eucharist—given to nourish us and bring us together as one body. In a parish like ours, this reminds us that Christ is truly present among us, especially in those in need, and calls us to share his love in daily life. The countdown also begins as Fr Joshua will be leaving us on St Alban’s Day, 21st June. I will be away on retreat next week, so please do take every opportunity to wish him well, and to receive the gift of the Eucharist from his own hands at Mass during the week.
