Confirmation is a sacred rite where baptized individuals publicly affirm their faith and promises made at baptism.
If you were baptized at a christening when you were a child, your parents and godparents made these promises on your behalf. As a young person or adult, you may be ready to affirm these promises for yourself and commit your life to following Jesus Christ.
At a confirmation service, you make these promises for yourself. Your friends and family as well as the local Christian community will be there to promise to support and pray for you.
The local bishop will lay their hands on your head and ask God’s Holy Spirit to give you the strength and commitment to live God’s way for the rest of your life.
Last year it was a joy to see 40 people from across the See of Fulham in the Diocese of Southwark come forward for Confirmation. We were absolutely delighted that 11 of them were from St Alban’s. The service was a wonderful celebration of commitment, community, and spiritual growth, and we are grateful to everyone who shared in making the day so special.
11 disciples of Christ from our church confirmed at Southwark Cathedral by the Bishop of Fulham. May they proclaim afresh the good news of the gospel! A joyful and wonderful day with so many others in the Fulham family of parishes in the Diocese of Southwark.
Southwark Cathedral, formally the Cathedral and Collegiate Church of St Saviour and St Mary Overie, is a Church of England cathedral in Southwark, London, near the south bank of the River Thames and close to London Bridge. It is the mother church of the Diocese of Southwark.
If you would like to be confirmed, or if you have any questions about the journey of preparation, please do get in touch with us—we would be delighted to hear from you.
