Fundraising Walk
Our 10-mile pilgrimage from St Alban’s to Chislehurst finished at the resting place of Fr Charles Lowder. Today we successfully completed our 10-mile sponsored pilgrimage walk from St Alban’s to Chislehurst. We were truly blessed with a beautiful sunny day throughout our journey.Along the way, we also had the blessing of visiting the Church of the Annunciation, Chislehurst, and we completed our walk at the resting place of Fr Charles Lowder in preparation for tomorrow’s Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. We are also overjoyed to share that other members of St Alban’s completed a separate walk on their own in solidarity and support! We are so proud to receive such backing and to see our community coming together so powerfully in support of our mission. A huge thank you to everyone who has walked, prayed, and given so far. 13 September 2026 – The Exultation of The Holy Cross
Download Sunday Booklet Dear friends, This Saturday, a few of us from St Alban’s will be walking 10 miles in one day to the grave of Fr Charles Lowder, founder of the Society of the Holy Cross (SSC), at Chislehurst. We are making this pilgrimage in anticipation of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which we celebrate this Sunday. Fr Lowder’s life was one of prayer, sacrifice and service to the people of God. The Society of the Holy Cross, which he founded, continues to encourage priests to live faithfully at the foot of the Cross — centred on Christ, committed to prayer, the Eucharist and the service of those in need. Our pilgrimage is also part of our St Alban’s brickwork appeal. We need to raise £160,000 to repair more than 500 bricks and the mortar of our church, helping to preserve this beautiful building so that it can continue to be a place where Christ is worshipped and where people are welcomed, fed, supported and loved. Hope lives here. For more than a century, St Alban’s has been a place of prayer and worship in this community. Today, that continues through our Sunday Mass, Foodbank, Advice Hub, free Saturday meals, Toddler Tuesday and all the other ways in which the church opens its doors to our neighbours. Some of us are walking the full 10 miles this Saturday, while others are taking part by walking 10 miles over the course of the week. After the quieter pace of the summer, it is wonderful to see the new term beginning and to look forward to the return of all our usual activities and ministries. There is a real sense of life and energy returning to the parish, and I am very grateful for all those who give their time and gifts to make our community what it is. But as everything gets busy again, it is important that we remember what lies at the very heart of our life together: the celebration of the Eucharist. Our Parish Mass every Sunday at 10am is the beating heart of our life as a church. Here we gather as the family of God, hear his Word in the Scriptures, bring before him our prayers and needs, and, above all, are fed and strengthened by Christ himself in the Eucharist. We do not come simply because it is our weekly habit. We come because we need God. We need to hear his Word, receive his grace, encounter Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, and be strengthened to live lives worthy of the calling we have received. As we begin a new term, let us therefore make a renewed commitment to Sunday Mass. Let us make it the highest and most vital part of our week. Everything else we do — our fellowship, our ministry, our outreach, our meetings and our activities — flows from our worship of God. There is something deeply healthy and beautiful about a life that is ordered around worship. When we regularly turn our hearts towards God, our lives begin to be ordered around him too: rooted in prayer, strengthened in faith, growing in holiness and directed towards the service of others. So, as the new term begins, let us come together faithfully each Sunday. Come and be fed. Come and hear. Come and pray. Come and receive Christ. And then go out into the week ready to live for him. I look forward to seeing you all again as we begin this new season of parish life together. This helps provide clergy, ministry and the mission of the Church across our Diocese. Because of the Diocese’s current financial deficit, we have been asked to increase our annual giving by 7.5%. At present, around 50% of our church and hall surplus goes to the Diocese, so this is a significant commitment for us. Our contribution is essential to sustaining our own ministry and priest, as well as supporting the wider mission of the Diocese. Without the support of parishes, difficult decisions about the future of churches may have to be made… Every gift makes a difference. If each of us can give a little more, and give regularly each month, we can meet this increase and continue to grow and thrive together. Giving to our church is part of our Christian discipleship. Everything we have is ultimately a gift from God, and we are called to use those gifts generously for his work: “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give… for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7 And Jesus reminds us:“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21 Please prayerfully consider increasing your giving and setting up a regular monthly donation—even when you are unable to be physically present at church. The choir, Children’s Church, Zoom Bible Study, and Toddler Tuesday have all deservedly enjoyed a well-earned break over the summer. We are very much looking forward to everything returning over the next fortnight, and to another season of worship, learning, fellowship and growth together. I am away this weekend on holiday, but I am delighted that Fr Jothi and his family will be with us to celebrate Mass and preach. I know they will receive a very warm St Alban’s welcome. We are also greatly looking forward to our pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham this Bank Holiday Monday. It will be a wonderful opportunity for prayer, healing and renewal as we journey together to this holy place. Although we have finally had some much-needed wet weather, let us pray for good weather on Monday! Be assured of my prayers for you all. 16 August 2026 -The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Download Sunday Booklet Dear friends, This Sunday, with great joy, we celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Here is a question I heard recently: Can you love Mary too much? The answer you may be surprised to hear from me is: yes! But only if our love for Mary exceeds the love that Jesus Christ, her Son, has for her. In reality, that is very hard to do, because the love that Jesus has for Mary is immeasurable Our love of Mary is simply part of our Christian faith. We honour her because God honoured her; we love her because she is the Mother of our Lord; and we turn to her because she continually points us towards her Son. As Mary herself says, “My soul magnifies the Lord.” To love Mary rightly is always to love Jesus more deeply. And I am convinced that when we honour and love the Mother of Jesus, it makes Jesus happy. I look forward to celebrating this great feast with you on Sunday, as together we rejoice in Mary’s Assumption and the hope of the glory that awaits all who belong to Christ. She visited the Walsingham Youth Pilgrimage and asked questions to some of the youth, including our very own JJ who joined the London Diocese group! Download Sunday Booklet Dear friends, Our parish pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham has been a great joy. It has been a privilege to pray at the feet of Our Lady, commending each one of you to her loving care and seeking her powerful prayers of intercession. Although we have been away, you have all been very much in our prayers, and we look forward to gathering again this Sunday to worship the Lord together. There is something about August that has always struck me as both restful and restless. It is often a season when the pace of life slows a little, giving us space to rest and be renewed. Yet at the same time there is a holy restlessness, as though the Holy Spirit is gently stirring our hearts, preparing us for all that God has in store in the weeks ahead. As we continue through this season, I encourage you to keep seeking the presence of the Holy Trinity in your daily life—in prayer, in worship, in the Scriptures, and in the ordinary moments of each day. God is always at work among us, often in the quiet places where we least expect him. May God bless you all, and I look forward to seeing you this Sunday. A sad moment is the ‘Last Visit’ where we say farewell…But, importantly, we carry with us all we have experienced back home. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary – Sunday 16th August 10am Healing Pilgrimage to Walsingham – Monday 31st AugustOne of the major pilgrimages of the Shrine’s year. Weather permitting, all aspects of the pilgrimage day are held in the Shrine gardens. The 12 noon Mass is followed by lunch – most pilgrims picnic in the gardens – and then Sprinkling, Laying-On of Hands and Anointing. Coach departs from St. Alban’s 6.45am Leaves Walsingham 4.45pm Cost £35 per adult £28.00 per child (under 18 and accompanied by an adult) Please return completed booking form/s with payment at the end of the 10am Mass on Sundays to the people at the back of church.
